Surgical Treatment of Acetabular Fracture

Abstract
Acetabular fractures are relatively rare, and caused by violent external force. So, their management has many difficult problems. At past, conserva¡þtive treatment, by traction & bed rest, had been more considered & used, but recently, more active and exact approaches to fracture, by open reduction, rigid internal fixation and early ambulation, have been considered.
The authors analyzed the results, by mainly radiological method in the 20 patients treated by surgical method, in the Dept¢¥ of orthopedics of Chonnam national university Hospital from Jan. 1st, 1979 to June 30th, 1987.
The Age of the patient was most common in active life, 4th decade (30 %) , and most of the fractures were caused by traffic accident (80%). The fracture, classified by Letournel method, was most common in posterior wall fracture associated with posterior dislocation of the hip joint. Most patients(80%) had combined injuries in other sites.
Satisfactory reduction was observed in 80% by surgery. This result suggests that better results can be expected by surgical intervention if surgery is indicated.
